Before Midnight

You unlock your bike

 In the dark dark night

 Jump on and ride away

 But you're stopped at the tracks

 Filled with angst and hope

 It's an Amtrak not a freight train

 You thank the stars there's a passenger car

 And one of them looks and waves

 Are they heading to a better place?

 It's almost guaranteed

 There's nothing in the shadows

 As scary as what you see

 In the light of day

 So stay a little longer

 Nothing good happens

 Before midnight anyway

 This town at night seems to lose a light

 Every time we're down a friend

 But the darker streets are fine with me

 I don't really wanna see the end

 But this skin gets tough, these eyes adjust

 The more nocturnal I get

 Looks like they used to make things here

 Now it doesn't even make sense

 There's nothing in the shadows

 You see in the light of day
