How come it feels like I'm stuck at day one

After so many years circling the sun

I've fought so many battles but what have I won

Except some melodies in some songs that I have sung

There's not enough coffee in California

I need something more

To help my tired body get where it wants to be

I thought I was ready to handle the high

As I built a ladder to get to the sky

Still with everything I give they want more
