The Line

I was closer to the line

Than I had ever been before

Open faucets dripping and pouring

Looks like my skin

Sprawled across the floor

I remember all my lines

Been through them a thousand before

I’m still wishing on pennies

But every day just costs so many

And, I don’t if I can afford it anymore

I made a promise to myself

Three knots on bracelets I have kept

Don’t know how I can escape

Falling deeper into the well

I guess I’ll spin it into a song

Writing notes inside my room

Don’t know whom to address them to

Is it my future self?

My daughter, or someone else?

Hope somebody gets to read them soon

And then I’ll find out

What it’s all about

Someday I will be

Farther from the line

I’ll always quit before the line

And when everything’s the same

I’ll still know some people can change

And I will too
