Walking in the rain I’m revelling

Running home to change out of my soaking clothes

To little pots of honey Ma warmed on the stove

Walking in the rain on gravel roads

Walking in the rain from head to toe

Splashing through puddles and dreaming of the snow

And smelling dinner cooking in other people’s homes

Walking in the rain on a mountain

Walking in the rain holding your hand

Stirring milk powder into steaming cups

Our packs are getting lighter and we’ve brought just enough

It falls and I can feel my skin

The brown leaves glistening

The thirsty creek flowing again

It falls and everything turns green

The tender hope, the wildest dream

Can we wash away the false things and the trends?

I think of my guitar inside the belly of the beast
