Then thought I heard my name called from high through heavy rain

And as I woke the river spilled but when you spoke my heart was filled

All that we now hold shall too go

So there I cried like chapel bells “oh I’ve come untied like snail shells”

But overhead a gull did sound, so thought instead “no this heart is bound”

Pick up my pace, forget this thirst, much more of this and my heart will too burst

But shadows cast across your face, I all but laughed, “no, this heart has space”

And then with eyes like river stones

You handed me a pine cone

To which I spoke: “I cannot tell

If I am of the sky or if I’m held”

And when the night calms me to sleep

My breath will slow, my bones will steep

And better off, and thankful so

That all we have to hold it shall too go
