Hillbilly Heroes
Well I was just a boy in East Kentucky
When I heard that lonesome sound on the radio
Little Ralph and Carter too sang that good old Mountain Dew
Flatt and Scruggs played with the father Bill Monroe
They sang them songs about our way of living
Reno and Smiley, Dell and Charlie Waller too
Then the king from Tennessee hit that big G run for me
As he sang ‘bout them worn out walking shoes
The Stanley’s from Virginia big Mon from old Rosen
Sonny Bob and JD Crowe the best I've ever seen
They rode them silver eagles up-and-down the line
Those hillbilly heroes of mine... Hillbilly heroes of mine
Like Whitley some have left us way too early... now they're picking with the angels up on high... but thank the lord they passed their gift on to us... to carry onward till the day we die.
Now there's Russell, Skaggs, Dan T. Baucom and Bowman...Cordle, Shelor, Doyle and Rice to name a few.
Steffey, Stewart, Bush and Sisk, Flux and Sparks all make the list...Allison, Dale Ann and Rhonda too.
Jim and Jess The Carter Family, Mac Wiseman and Hylo...Baker, Wise and Warren boys they sure could drag a bow...Seckler, Graves and Shuffler they've all stood the test of time.
Now they're Hillbilly Heroes of mine.
Hillbilly Heroes of mine.
One more trip back to the old home place would be divine...to see those Hillbilly Heroes of mine. Hillbilly Heroes of mine.
