Trapezoid
Is a song that I started while
Everything for Geometry was being mixed
And I toyed with the idea
Of incorporating it on the original EP
As a hidden track
But at the time
I couldn't quite figure out where I wanted to put it
Plus I wasn't even sure
If I had said everything I wanted to say
For it to be ready for release anyway
So I just left it in the vault
It wasn't until I decided to do this commentary album
That I realized it was pretty much done
So, you know, here it is as a bonus
Now...
As far as the story is concerned
Trapezoid is about Janine's internal conflict with herself
As she confesses that she was actually afraid to love
And give Iris her all the entire time
So, we essentially hear Iris talking to Janine
Though we never actually hear
Another human voice in the conversation
The trombone on this song
Represents Janine
And I did this this way
Because I wanted to create that Charlie Brown effect
And for those of you that know and remember
All of the adults throughout the cartoon
Spoke in this phantom-like
Wah wah wah language
And in the cartoon
We're always left trying to imagine
What the adults are saying based on
The responses from the children
So this is what I did here
And towards the end
We're swept out of this sweet little convo abruptly
Because Iris almost gets pulled back in
And she cuts the shit short to say look
Like are you gonna love me or what
You know
Quit playing around
I don't really have time
And so...
If you know anything about trapezoids
They have at least one pair of parallel sides
While the other pair of sides
Aren't parallel and they're
Sometimes not even equal in length
So when Iris says
Parallel energy
Time's out of sync and our
Love is a trapezoid
She's comparing what
They have
To the nature of a trapezoid
By saying
That she and Janine
Always have these strong, intense feelings
For each other
But the timing for them as a union
Is never right and
It may never be right
So ah, here's Trapezoid
