So let's set this up from the start

I was young and you were 23

You didn't take your life that seriously

This isn't a story about a boy breaking my heart

There was no mention of love

That was very clear from the start

Your older friends and their even older advice

No, it wasn't tailored to me and my small and tarnished teenage life

He said, "Take me where you want to go

Underneath these bedsheets

With your sweaty, old, ripped, grotty clothes

We know we're no good for each other

And I know I occupy your head

Meeting you was a disaster

So we pour a drink and get into bed"

I said, "Leave"

I said, "Go"

You said, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no"

Then you threw stones at my window

Made me feel so simple

The next day, I spoke to your sister

And she asked, "How are things with my miserable brother?"

He's a complex kind of guy

I'd get away now whilst you still can try

He said, "Take me where you want to go

Underneath these bedsheets

With your sweaty, old, ripped, grotty clothes

We know we're no good for each other

And I know I occupy your head

Meeting you was a disaster

So we pour a drink and get into bed"

I never wanted much and you didn't take up time

Cleaned up after yourself and your dirty bottles of wine

23-Year-old toddler who would throw himself into bed

And sing songs with the fairies, said that they took over his head

So I said, "Baby, please stop drinking

As your friend, I'll do your thinking

'Cause there's one thing on your mind

Is you're going home alone tonight"

I said, "Baby, please stop drinking

As your friend, I'll do your thinking

'Cause there's one thing on your mind

If you're going home alone tonight"

"Take me where you want to go

Underneath these bedsheets

With your sweaty, old, ripped, grotty clothes

We know we're no good for each other

And I know I occupy your head
