The Better Part of Living

I am just my Father’s Son

 Wish no harm on anyone

 Though it might not always show

 I was raised to know what’s right and wrong

 Where I do and don’t belong

  To think fast and answer slow

  

 The better part of living

 Can’t be measured out in pay

 And these days… 

 Too much take and not much giving

 All this talk without much say

 There’s less traffic on the high road

 It might get lonely that’s OK

 I’d best be on my way…

 Runs on popular demand

 Seems that’s all we understand

 But it doesn’t make it so

 Know the better part of living

 In the chasing of a dream

 Work to be a better man

 Try and fix the world by hand

 Set the bar up really high

 Falling short but game to try

 Fail but it don’t hurt to try

 You might earn but you can’t buy

 Questions asked and options weighed

 Hands are dealt and cards are played

 Luck runs hot and cold

 All is fair in fairy tales

 And Going out of Business sales

 As sure as young turns into old

 Good as I want to be 

 But I’ll always be grateful

 Pushing toward it

 Figure out the cost

 Of all the living lost

 And I’ll never be

 The fortunes of

 For the few that know

 Where did the money go

 They’d say I told you so

 But we cant afford it

 If what it’s all about

 Was coming out ahead 

 There’d be more happy rich folks than there are

 And if it mattered much what people think or

 What somebody said

 Life would seem a little different than it sas so far

 Then life would sure be different than it’s been so far
