Days Gone By

I remember those happier days,

When the circus was loved

And the crowds came for

Secrets and wonders that thrill and amaze,

But this story begins long before;

Once upon a time there was a tree …

A tree is a song that is sung to the sky,

And this tree has stood here for centuries,

I once was told it grew flowers,

And had magical powers;

But that was in days long gone by.

Back then the tree stood much stronger and higher,

And they said it could grant you your true heart’s desire;

Or so they alleged and

That soon became legend,

Back in the days long gone by.

Many years here it thrived,

Until people arrived,

When they heard there were dreams for the taking.

But the tree soon grew tired

Granting endless desires,

And before long its roots started shaking.

A fairy passed by and observed this abuse,

Used her magic to rescue the old Tree of Truth.

So the people were banished

And the Tree of Truth vanished;

Lost in those days long gone …

Bringing fraudsters, and cheaters, and badness.

With the tree standing tall

In the midst of it all,

Like a beacon of truth in the madness.
