Birdsong

First sang the blackbird before the light

The brave little voice in the grip of night

A mellow song that dawn did wake

And every note she sang shook a star from its place

Then sang the robin, slight but bold

She'll sing from the spring 'till the year grows old

Her sun drove the darkness from the skies

She sang until the sun did glimmer in her eyes
