The Road Not Taken (Extended version)

I dreamt that you were near me, at Christmas time, I'd asked you on a journey, our paths aligned

We wondered in the moonlight to the woodland fair, stars shining in the brittle clear night air

The Lanterns in the branches, weighed down with snow, Illuminate the clearing in a golden glow

And we join in wide-eyed wonder around the roaring fire, and the ringing out of carols from the yuletide choir

My mind drifts back to our yesterdays, hand-in-hand we ruled the waves

You saved my life all those years ago and I still don't know why you had to go

We talk about our journey till the morning light, of love and fate and fortune, in a different life

Then as the embers die out and comes the day, I look into your fading eyes as you drift away

And still your voice it fills my mind, 'The road not taken', you have to find

And here you stand so far from home, If the dream is real - we're not alone

At Christmas time let's keep in mind, all the good things in life we've left behind

And raise our glass in silent toast, to all the loved ones that we still miss the most

Then time calls the tune, the dream drifts by, and I wake up in the real world, with a heavy sigh
