I'm not like other birds
But I still fly
When I'm on the ground I stick out like a sore thumb
But you can't tell when I'm in the sky
I still fly
The humans often shoo me away
That's understandable
They're used to shooing pigeons all day
According to the pigeon life manual
(You see when we graduate pigeon school and
learn how to steal chips and the like
We get presented with this book and
Well, it's a whole thing)
They call me Hopalong
'Cause I've only got one toe
I wish I had some heroic backstory
But my tale's excitement, it's quite low
This is how it goes
I was on an adventure with my chip-hungry pigeon mates when
Penny Pigeon picked up plenty potato pieces on her radar
And by then it was too late
My toes had found their fate
We swooped down to catch those potato pieces as they swam around
But I was not warned a deep fat fryer was
no place for a pigeon to be found!
My friends pulled up and escaped in time
Looked back as they saw my mistake
I felt my toes skim the oily surface
I had left it well too late
I left it too late
(Special shout out to whichever human ate my deep-fried toe
I hope it tasted good)
That's the tale of me losing my toes
You'll agree it wasn't particularly great
Now I'm an outcast and without a home
Why can't the others appreciate we all make mistakes?
I made a mistake
They call me Hopalong
Because I've only got one toe
I wish I had some heroic backstory
But my tale's excitement is quite low
That's how it goes
It's a tale of woe
