Late to Church

I walked through the front door, sat down in the back

See that summer sunshine comin' through that old stained glass

The choir is singin' some song, but I don't know the words

Guess that's what I get for bein' this late to church

I should've got here sooner, but I got in my own way

Hope they let me into Heaven after all the hell I've raised

They're talkin' 'bout forgiveness, grace, and things I don't deserve

If I'd've known it was this simple, I wouldn't've been this late to church

Yeah, I been down every dead-end road to get here

Got lost out in the dark for far too long

What I didn't know was missin' all of these years

Was waitin' on me right here all along

No traffic on the highway, didn't catch a long red light

Wasn't hungover this morning, didn't stay out late last night

She left a long time ago, so I can't blame it on her

Ain't got no good excuse for bein' this late to church

Yeah, I been down every dead-end road to get here
