The dawn comes up like thunder

Out of China across the bay

It's amazing how much can happen in one dawn

This isn't safe

If this cockpit springs a leak we'll drown up here

Hooded clouds, like friars

Tell their beads in drops of rain

I can't see a thing up here

We need to turn back

Despite bad weather, I twice attempted to get through from Akyab

But not knowing anything about local conditions, or the nature of the monsoon

I decided to turn back

My third attempt will be 'blind' flying at high altitude

For there shall come a mightier blast

There shall be a darker day

And the stars, from heaven down cast

Like red leaves be swept away

Still no good

We can't go through it, we'll have to fly up and over it

I've never seen anything like it
