Old ships impaled

The moon is off track and we need to know why

So we've launched an enquiry

There's no need to explain

So best stop the enquiry

The greatest of rivers still slow to a trickle

And even great love has a date of expiry

There's no need to refrain

So just close the committee

The longest of foot races begin with quick signals

And even true love will bend toward it's a pity

The best is past and the moon will wax and the moon will wane and the night moves fast in an endless chain and in endless pain and the sun will not last

So let's stop the enquiry

Most puzzles pose identical riddles

And even great love grows tritely less fiery

The sky's obscure and the stars are far and most don't shine and no hearts are sure and the sun's on tour and few hopes can endure

Even the sun is just a gas puddle

Even most stars are secretly little

Even the moon is just a big pebble

Even great loves are secretly brittle

There's no need to say more

So defund the committee

All mazes most confound in the middle

And even great love can become Walter Mitty

The sun won't last and the moon's outcast and the stars will wane and the night move fast in a hurried chain And through buried pain and the best is only very recently past

But how do we know the date of expiry?

Why can't our hearts grow ever more fiery?

Why must"they're perfect!" turn to"what a pity"?

What's with the uninteresting diaries?

And who the heck is Walter F. Mitty?

In the room the committee comes and goes

Talking of questions that they chose

They've heard the cries

Vague dreams have died

There is no prize for plans untried

The rivers are salty and we need to know why

So we will launch a new enquiry!

Or at least we will try

And if we fail, at least we'll know why

Because somewhere, somehow, someday
