I can hear the train rattling

Track’s a mile away

People singing

Ringing in another New Year’s Day

It’s a long lonely fall

I won’t be going down that way

But these are hard times

The stars tonight are hiding

Behind the high rise lights

Full moon shining down

On the town all black & white

My mind’s a slow motion replay

Of every lover and every fight

But I’m thinking about you tonight

The cameras flash and shutter

TV film the houses

And broken bottles in the gutter

The bonfire burns and the flame and ash flutter

Through the park where we’d go

Fast food kills you slow

The grog quickens the pace

Many are found on the morning ground

With no name and no place

But you know sometimes God’s angels

Even they can fall from grace

Does the blood that’s swelling in your mouth make it hard for you to speak?

Did they hit you and put that mark upon your cheek?

Did you fell like you were drowning when your insides start to bleed?

Did you sign that piece of paper that you couldn’t even read?

Was it a warm bed Billy?

Was it a decent feed?
