Some decisions should never be made
Ah!
Ah!
Sitting on my sofa sipping lemonade
Across the TV, a familiar image played
It was me up on the screen, I'm staring in a daze (Ooh)
I looked right at myself and myself asked me, "Can we trade?" (Ooh)
I jumped up to my feet while questioning, "What's in this drink?"
Ran to the kitchen, poured the rest of it down in the sink
Am I hallucinating? I don't even mess with shrooms
I tried to turn it off, but it was on in every room
Grabbed the remote and started mashing buttons in a scramble
The same visual of me was seen on every channel
I chose to gather my composure in the fastest way
I sat down on the couch to hear what myself had to say
He said, "Your life the way it stands can be much better, man
Let me expand thy riches with a different set of plans
I can craft a world of excess with these clever hands
Just let me out, I'll make us greater than you ever can"
His tone convinced me I'd be dry for life if I denied it
Threw caution to the wind, might work if I decide to try it
He said, "We'll switch spots for a month, your life will be very active
I'll make fantastic moves and improve it in every facet"
I said, "How do we make the transfer?" He said, "Smooth and peaceful
Into the TV, and in thirty days I'll come release you
When I return, you'll see the many ways that I've increased you
The daily work you do will cease 'cause you'll no longer need to"
The greed took over me, my flesh dissolved, my mind careened
In seconds he was on my couch and I was behind the screen
My mood was real relaxed, I can't believe how calm this place is
Prepared to wait in here in patience as I lay in stasis
Meanwhile, the other me was in my world as my accomplice
True to his word, he started doing all the things he promised
He made the obstacles look easy that for me were hardest
And every move he made in business and in life was flawless
By the first week, all my income he invested right
The second week he was married to a successful wife
He made an album that went platinum on the second night
By the third week, man, I was financially set for life
He went to former friends and ended any past resentment
And every bad relationship I ever had was mended
All under this identical resemblance as intended
While I was in the television and my path suspended
On the last day of the fourth week of this arrangement
I heard the door open and close, I started feeling anxious
He sat on the couch and showed me all he'd done to boost my status
Hard to imagine one month prior I was viewed as average
A brand new home was owned and in my name, equipped and lavish
Gathered connections, friends with influence and well established
I filled with gladness and prepared to come back decorated
Ready to face real life again and re-accept my placement
But seconds later I had noticed he had hesitated (What's up?)
I braced and waited for the transfer, but he never made it
I said, "Don't entertain me, man, erase it, bro, stop playing"
He said, "There's been a change, I came to let you know I'm staying
I gave my word to do this deal and truly planned to keep it
But once I felt the way that living feels, I can't just leave it"
I felt deceived and then defeated, screaming spitefully
"How could you do this when you said you built this life for me?"
"I was a digital illusion in this place I was
I never knew the taste of food, laughter, and making love"
I said, "But still, you can't confine me to this lonely place, G
The minutes feel like days, the redundancy will drive me crazy"
I said, "How long will I be here?" He said, "An endless number"
He said, "You'll feel emotion still, but never pain or hunger"
Now every day that passes by, he tortures me in spots
Living my life in my world and forcing me to watch
Why did I try to take a shortcut for the lust of wealth? (Why?)
I should've stayed the way I was and built it up myself
See, greed suppresses acts of love, my friend, and that's the drug
He said, "You should have been more grateful"—then he snatched the plug
