Livin' in Croydon lwhen I was a kid I cut through the lane when my train was half-lit

One side of the path got caught in a downpour One side stayed golden on the pavement floor

I stood right there, couldn't choose Wet shoes, warm shoes

Then I moved like I had to prove My legs knew what to do

So I danced and jumped back and forth Back and forth, back and forth

Half rain, half sun on the floor Back and forth, back and forth

I ran to get my mates to see You had to be there with me

Back and forth, back and forth Back and forth

I skidded on the split like you called my name Left foot in the shower, right foot in the flame

I laughed so hard I nearly lost my breath Like the sky was playin' games

With the street beneath my steps I waved them over, come and look

This can't be a normal road The clouds were droppin' one half down

While the other half glowed in gold

So I danced and jumped back and forth Back and forth, back and forth

Half rain, half sun on the floor Back and forth, back and forth

I ran to get my mates to see You had to be there with me

Back and forth, back and forth Back and forth

And if the days got heavy after that I'd still go back in my head

To that crooked little line on the path Where wonder hit me instead

I danced and jumped back and forth Back and forth, back and forth

Half rain, half sun on the floor Back and forth, back and forth

I ran to get my mates to see You had to be there with me

Back and forth, back and forth Back and forth
