Setting his sights on Bollywood as a young boy, Shahid Mallya has steadily become a playback stalwart with his sweeping vocal style which cuts straight to the soul.
• Mallya was inspired to perform by his father, who switched the young singer onto playback greats such as Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar but whose own aspirations were cut short by an accident that left him bedridden for years.
• He moved to Mumbai in 2002 to begin his career in earnest, and began singing for TV serials before his film debut with “Gurbani” for the 2011 action-comedy Yamla Pagla Deewana.
• Mallya got his break the same year when a friend introduced him to revered composer Pritam, for whom he sang “Rabba Main Toh Mar Gaya Oye” and “Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi (Reprise)” for the romance Mausam.
• Some of the singer’s most successful tracks since then include “Radha” from Jab Harry Met Sejal and “Daryaa” from Manmarziyaan.
