She walked away from him A few years ago He thinks about her every now and then And how she let him go Yeah she walked away never to look back Except for maybe one glance or two From the only man they say to tame a heart like that Until her heart caught wind and how those winds blew An only child in a border town Is what she knew as home Her daddy beat her momma 'til she shot him down Then what she knew was gone And she walked away never to look back Except for maybe one glance or two She kept folks at bay but if one were to ask How she was she'd just simply laugh at you She started life out broken and learned that life was mean And life never taught her much else She'd all but lost the notion of what it means to dream And thought a heart like hers would spend life by itself You're a victim of happenstance When things go all wrong But when you're never given half a chance It's hard to get along So she walked away never to look back Not for even one glance or two She grew up a stray and went out as that Just another case as to what life can do Yeah she walked away never to look back Not for even one glance or two There ain't much to say now if one were to ask There sure ain't much now that you could do
