I can’t breathe are the last words that a black man ever said
The same words are uttered when the government asks you to wear a mask in public
I guess it the same, dying of a disease or on the street to a cops knee
People are dying and waiting on a test but upstairs they don’t care
They're just shooting off fireworks in another time zone waiting for it to be over
Divided we can’t stand, have we forgot just where it is we came from
And I wish I didn’t care
And I wish I could understand
I was talking to a kid who had himself convinced racism was a thing of the past
He was so sure but he had a good heart, yeah I knew it wasn’t an attack
It made me so sad that sometimes good people won’t allow themselves to understand
I had a buddy who had himself a kid last year with an Indian woman
They love him so much and they’ll take care, still I can’t help but wonder
It makes me so scared, what kinda world will he have to grow in
And I wish I didn’t care
And I wish I could understand
Well we had a good run
But its coming to an end
Yeah it feels like the end of the road
Waiting on change that won’t ever come
Cause no one can admit there wrong
Everyones talking about hope
But I don’t really know these days
And I wish I didn’t care
And I wish I could understand
