In Sparta, in times of peace you’ll find beautiful words

In Sparta, in times of peace you’ll find music and art

When I was a child they promised to us

That by the time we grow up the fighting will stop

But I am not naive

And evil never dies

It shifts, mutates or sleeps

Awaits a darker time

And I am thinking of those who have given their life so we don’t live by the sword

Awake at night I remind myself what we’re living for when I can’t find the words

In Sparta, on people’s lips you’ll find an anthem of hope

In Sparta, the dream of peace prevails over the nightmare of war

For thousands of years we’ve only lived to create

Yet somehow in Rome I still hear voices of hate

Perhaps they are naive

Or maybe just afraid

They lived so long in peace

Forgot just what it takes

And I am thinking of those who have given their light so we don’t live in the dark

Awake at night I remind myself what we’re living for when I can’t find the spark

For all the great and wondrous things it did?

Or will the fog of war becloud its legacy?
