At first, and at least, to the human mind

We think we can calculate everything inside the space of a day

But it's in the time after that when we see that there is so much we cannot grasp

I don't claim to know what's in the centre of our souls

Or what the backs of our hands look like

But I think I know that feelings, fleeting and deep, are graspable, are calculable

Even when we cannot use words to describe them

Something measured is going on

And it may be on the surface or it may be on a more spiritual level

But there is a reason

There is a reason why we find it so easy to shed our skin when we are in pain

It's because our closest protection

Our closest protection is to lie to ourselves
