Stumbling cold trying hard to get home

I took a shortcut in through the dark

The smell of smoke on your hair and your clothes

leaving the taste of the fires you got

The whiskey heat on your breath that I see

twist into shapes of a face in the air

Staring through eyes that can see only light

Have you been hiding your shadow again?

Marching along pulling old iron chains

up from a basement built like a cave

Holding a mirror up at 6 in the morning

with the hands of a thief in a cage

Candle wax on the walls like water

pouring over metal and stone

Swimming at night in the stillness alone

relaxing into the black until we float with the stars on up
