The Void

A want for peace lay inside of me

I don't mind the pain, you see

I make myself endure, despite

You fight me with all your might

Drops of poison to seduce

It sets the monster loose

One step closer to the noose

There will be no truce

Your pain enveloped you and left

A broken shell of a man bereft

Your body cold on a bed of steel

It all seemed so unreal

Shaking, sweating, a stare so cold

The chains you bear within unfold

Consumed by pride and fear, you go

And leave me just feeling so low

Once was a rope, now a thread

Shredding away as we go along

We waste away but at what cost?
