In real life I’m afraid of what I want

The magic would be saying, “I am full,”

Strip away the deeds that I pretend proceed from my unpleasant plight.

Oh look at her! What a shining surprise. She made it out.

Now what is this? Who is standing in my place?

What is that ungainly thing? There’s something quite familiar about its face…

“Oh shit,” I think, “I might have seen it before.”

So I rear back my ugly head,

And I change my mind again.

And so I’ll take it all in

This spell so filthy, so true:

“I WANT”,

Muscles strong for shivering and a heart that thrives on that which I withhold.

Of course it comes down to the simplest things:

The fear of a wish fulfilled,

And the truth that haunts me still,

Each time I rear back my ugly head

And I change my mind again.
