A quiet village in the West where the land meets the sea
The perfect image of life in the West country
But on the outskirts of town, trees stood towering all around
But for the one road that lead in and out
The ancient forest as old as memory
Rumoured to be haunted, prowled by banshee and beast
But none of the townsfolk did dare venture anywhere near
For the fear of what they didn't know was in there
He diddie eye diddie oh de die
Diddie he diddie eye de oh
He diddie eye diddie oh de die
Diddie he diddie eye de oh
A handsome young shepherd tended his flock by the trees
Ever cautious of what watched him from between the leaves
One eve as the daylight grew dim, over the flock's tuneless din
He swore he heard a lady laughing in the forest so grim
With hesitant footsteps he edged toward the woods
Had he really heard the laughter? Was there any way that he could?
But then again it rang out- as clear as a bell, no doubt
And with his own eyes he witnessed the source of the sound
He diddie eye diddie oh de die
Diddie he diddie eye de oh
He diddie eye diddie oh de die
Diddie he diddie eye de oh
Between the tree trunks stood a curving feminine form
A most enchanting figure, as bare as a babe newly born
And with a bewitching grin, she beckoned the shepherd "come in"
He moved towards her, entranced, a slave to her whim
Before he knew it, he was alone beneath the ancient trees
Panic swelled within him as her laughter grew dark and diseased
The disembodied sound caused his poor heart to pound
He ran screaming into the shadows never to be found
He diddie eye diddie oh de die
Diddie he diddie eye de oh
He diddie eye diddie oh de die
Diddie he diddie eye de oh
It is said that his screams could be heard the next village o'er
That they ceased all 'a sudden and gave way to a silence so raw
Yet none of the townsfolk did dare venture anywhere near
For the fear of what they didn't know was in there
He diddie eye diddie oh de die
Diddie he diddie eye de oh
He diddie eye diddie oh de die
Diddie he diddie eye de oh
He diddie eye diddie oh de die
Diddie he diddie eye de oh
He diddie eye diddie oh de die
Diddie he diddie eye de oh
