Badflower are all about confronting demons and penning killer songs about it. After spending about half-a-dozen years locking onto their sound, the Los Angeles outfit broke big thanks to a trio of hits, including 2018’s unsettling “Ghost”, that tangle up razor-wire riffs with singer Josh Katz’s painfully intimate tales of social alienation, family conflict and insecurity. They look to ’90s alt-rock for inspiration—it can be heard in the way “Heroin”, a seething anthem, drowns in a haunted ether that recalls Radiohead, and in how the 2021 single “Fukboi” detonates with all the reckless anger of vintage grunge and punk.
