Straight out of Knoxville, TN, Superdrag hit their stride in the mid-'90s when their mix of bittersweet power pop and crunchy grunge riffs slid in nicely alongside alt-rock powerhouses like Weezer and Foo Fighters. Their 1996 major label debut is highlighted by dissonant guitar moves ("Destination Ursa Major"), and the poppy single "Sucked Out" shows lead singer/songwriter John Davis already lamenting the idea of selling out. They moved on to more complex compositions—the Beatles-esque, sitar-infused "I'm Expanding My Mind"—while remaining angsty as ever with the punky "Slow To Anger."
