Letra

We walked outside one day and there it was
One straight white line just hanging there
Cutting the sky in two
A plane, life
Lives other than ours and the ones we've been living
A half life submerged without thought without giving
Comfort in the low points or high praise in the highs
We just got used to living a life of compromise
Together Alone,
We're together alone
We were so terrified as we clung to each other together, alone
There was nothing I could give you no comfort but an apple I pulled out of the basket and pressed into your palm
You smiled at me and said, everything's going to be fine
I smiled at you and answered I'm sure that you are right.
But you've always been a liar and you know what? So have I.
They say lying gets you nowhere, but fuck it's worth a try.
You got so sick, no light in your eyes
No appetite
The apple went untouched in your pocked
And when you asked me am I going to die
Then I should have lied
And so you knew in that moment, you knew
You're not getting through this
I won't draw that white line in the sky
I won't be sat staring out at passing clouds
I won't survive this, the thing that took the most
I'm never going to make it but fuck, I came so close
I buried your body, the first place that I found
The first place that would take you,
It was winter, so the ground was so hard beneath my fingers
I dug until I bled
A shallow little divot but what was there instead?
Together alone, We're together alone
We left you to the damp and dirt, we didn't have a choice
We didn't have the means to take you
Besides we weren't allowed
The thought of you just lying there alone under the clay
I thought of me alone and safe and if I should have stayed
I thought of what I'd say to you if I could see your face
If somehow you'd forgive me if we could only meet again
And when the evening stretched to brightness, when the spring time came
I wondered if an apple tree had grown out of your grave
