We the Kings is an American alternative band whose music is flavored with elements of punk-pop, hip-hop, and vintage disco.
∙ The quartet’s founding members were childhood friends, who formed the group as high school students in Bradenton, Florida.
∙ Their self-titled 2007 debut album featured the single “Check Yes, Juliet,” which reached the Billboard Top 100 and eventually went Platinum.
∙ In 2009, the band had two Top 40 hits from their sophomore album, Smile Kid: “Heaven Can Wait” and “We’ll Be a Dream,” featuring Demi Lovato.
∙ The interactive music video for their 2011 track “Say You Like Me” won a 2012 O Music Award—presented by MTV—for Most Innovative Music Video of the Year.
∙ In February 2016, the band’s cover of “The Story of Tonight”—from the blockbuster musical Hamilton—earned an approving tweet from composer Lin-Manuel Miranda.
∙ Frontman Travis Clark cowrote Avril Lavigne’s “Head Above Water,” the lead single from her like-titled 2019 hit album, and the band was featured on a version of the song.
