Letra

Alright, in Triangles
Malaak and Stedman are briefly introduced
And we get to hear Iris talk about
How she feels about each of them
This is the first time that we hear
Positive things about how Janine makes Iris feel
And Malaak and Stedman's brief cameo is
A reflection of just how much attention
Iris devotes to Janine
It also signifies that Iris wants to solely choose her
But is fearful about giving up the other situations
Because she knows that Janine won't ever commit
Now...
Stedman and Iris have actually never been in a relationship
But their friendship and sexual chemistry is deep
So although Iris appears to be like this masculine lesbian
Stedman seems to be the only man that Iris
Has trusted to share her feminine energy with
At the beginning of verse two
Iris says, When nature hits, you can't resist...
And she's expressing here
That he makes it difficult
For her to ignore her innate desire
To intimately engage with masculine energy
Both emotionally and sexually
She goes on to further explain
Their unbreakable bond and why she loves him
Now, Stedman knows about the women Iris deals with
And he's actually ok with it
But they often toy
With the idea of someday becoming exclusive
Malaak on the other hand
Is pretty much the safe route for Iris
Because she's demonstrated all of the qualities
That make her a great life partner
Iris definitely honors what Malaak and her have
But they aren't exactly on the same page with a lot of things
That causes this like unspoken disconnect between them
And, this is actually never addressed in the
lyrics, however, the underlying sadness and indifference
Is reflected in the somber nature of the music
And the flute
That's beautifully played by Lauren V. Highsmith
Represents optimism
The chorus really accentuates
Iris' overall dilemma
As she speaks on what she wishes
That she could communicate to each character
And the lyrics in the chorus are
You know you make me feel so good
But someone else has my heart too
I wish I could have all of you
We're caught in this triangle
This has double meaning
As she flops between addressing them individually
And collectively throughout
The 1st verse, of course, addresses Janine
The second Stedman
And the third Malaak
As far as sequencing is concerned
I thought it would be cool to put triangles before squares because
If the love triangle were to actually work
It'd end up being a square
So here's Triangles
