Straw man grounded in a field

His eyes fixed

On a moving sky

He remembers why

Longing for a breeze

He wants to wander

Within walls of self

With someone else

It’s a solitary dream

And time unwinds his mind

To something real;

Too much to heal

Stay within me

The only place

That you and I

Will ever be

Even as you

Fade away from me

I’ll keep you here

His heart is tethered

To a feathered sky

But he forgot how to fly

Lonesome is his home

This puppet cannot pull

His strings alone

He needs a home

But he can’t abandon his lonesome post

Which seems to repel

Those who matter most

And now they’re gone

Stay within me

The only place

That you and I

Will ever be

Even as you

Fade away from me
