Sacks slung on his shoulders, stick in his hand,
Holes in both knees
Children run to meet him like a circus passin' by
Mothers stand to greet him, hoping they can catch his eye.
She can't tell what it was to make her want to give him her heart
But she knew her future stood right there with the there with the man with the horse and cart
Her family would disown her, She'd be left there on her own.

They say he joined the navy at the age of seventeen
There's nowhere on the planet that man has never been
Had his way with women from all corners of the land

Filling bags and selling rags to try and make a pound
