Mama tried to make this house a home

Daddy drove a truck

Somebody always told him where to go

We only saw him two times a week

Sometimes, he needed days of sleep

But he was doin' alright

They grew up poor, lived the best they could

Tried real hard, it didn't do no good

So I took off on my road

A different road than my daddy drove

My brother signed up, said "Yes Sir" to them stripes

Woe his colors, all brainwashed in their pride

And he came back all tired and mean

Good days too few and far between
