Waking

I met him once, and loved him, that is all, Both rusty hearts were shattered from the fall, And we could see the glory flee From the truth of our love growing old. The endless weary days we spent alone, And firelight on skin under the gloam, The flowing light of sun and sky Will replace all the hatred we've known. But do you know these shining lanes and towers? I was not the only one, I too was overpowered, But we made our decisions in the cold light of day, And we stayed, and we swayed, and forgave. The warmth we share is tangled, troubled, and torn, Our years, our past, our sweetnesses, Yet no remorse I hold, And I will awake from a dream of gold, And I'll wait for the years to unfold.
