TWO MEN
1) Right side window sunrise on my early-morning ride
Thinking about two men, who have touched my life
One I called dad; I grew up by his side
Jim, an electrician; the father of my wife
Now dad, joined the Army and Jim went off to sea
The story they were writing, would one day include me
2) [They came home from the service and went right back to work
Never speaking of the horrors that had to be a part of war
The greatest generation is how they came to be known
Just doing what, needed done when they got back to their homes
Perhaps struggling with emotion, with their feelings rarely shown
We didn't understand the love 'til older we had grown
BRIDGE: We learned through their provision; as kids never knowing want
With Jim working in the factory and dad in a storefront
Their work was what they knew; it allowed them both to thrive
Their work was their salvation; it helped them, to survive
3) Oh what they both gave us, in the twilight of their lives
Now with our own families; as husbands and as wives
In times we spent together, we were given such a gift
One that I'll always cherish, in the days that I have left
I saw how this life had shaped them into the men that they'd become
I pray my life will have honored them when all my days are done.
TAG: We learned through their provision; as kids never knowing want
With Jim working in the factory, and dad in a storefront
