This Town

I still remember this town Though it's been years since I've been around All the stores boarded up, changed names or burnt down But I still remember this town I still remember the storms The fireplace burned just to keep our house warm How we all felt so brave when we were misinformed But I still remember the storms I haven't forgotten this street The burning, cracked blacktop beneath my bare feet Through unbearable winters and covered concrete I haven't forgotten this street I haven't forgotten your face So many memories time couldn't erase And an old picture book holds each one just in case But I haven't forgotten your face I still can't remember my dreams But recall you telling me yours frequently And wishing I could pull one out of my sleeve But I still can't remember my dreams But I still remember this town Rusted old street lights and snow on the ground Though the home I once knew is not the home that I've found I still remember this town
