It’s the end of September and the sun is still shining bright

And the wind keeps on blowing the smell of a riverbank

I’m smoking dirty cigarettes 'cause I can’t afford the ones I like

There’s no time to wash my clothes, but it don’t matter 'cause they all smell like smoke

And I’m lighting my cigarette in the toaster

Just like my mother used to do

And I’m sitting in my empty apartment, just wondering what it is I should do

Well I’ve oiled up my boots so it’s okay if I walk in the rain

And there’s no whisky in the freezer so I guess I’ll punch another bowl again

Dirty leaves on the ground keep rustling in the wind

It keeps my attention now I can’t remember what I was just thinking
