Lyrics

I remember her face
I was like ten
She was like eight
That was back then
I could look in her eyes
Then say hey
That was just about all I knew to say!
Fell asleep with the yearbook under my face
Open to her picture, I remember her name
I don't think anybody ever knew about my first crush
Biggest little secret that I had, and I kept it hush-hush
But I remember ice-skating
I knew my stuff!
And every time that I passed her
I'd jump to show off
At the drugstore
Some of us were gettin' ice cream
I heard her whisper to her best friend that she liked me
Ooh what a rush
Watch me blush
Heart like a kick-drum
With my crush
Ooh what a thrill
Time stands still
I'm so high, I don't know what to feel, I said
Ooh what a rush
Watch me blush
My heart like a kick-drum
With my crush
Ooh what a thrill
Time stands still
I'm so high, I don't know what to feel
Time moved on, and most of us with it
First day, seventh grade
I'm chillin' like a villain
Then this girl walked in
Last in her seat
It didn't take long
And the guys were teasing' me
One day she snuck in early, wrote
"I love JC" on the board
That's me!
I was just floored
Then everyone saw it
Her eyes went wide
She said "What?"
"JC stands for Jesus Christ!"
Read my old journal
I denied it then
But I was dreaming that one day
We could be more than just friends
And she made crafts using coke tabs
So I collected more than 1,000
In a ziploc bag
And on the last day of school
I gave her that bag
Most romantic moment of my whole life!
And we shook hands
Then she moved away, I didn't see her again
Until a whole year later, and we were both different then
Shaky knees
Watch me freeze
Only the best is what I'd ever believe of my crush
What a rush
Watch me blush
The whole world fades and
It's just us (I said)
Ooh what a rush!
Watch me blush!
My heart like a kick-drum
With my crush
Ooh what a thrill
Time stands still
Man, I'm so high I don't know what to feel!
I made it through middle school
High school was different
Whatever made me cool before didn't stick with me
But that didn't matter when kinda outta nowhere
A girl I'd just met gave me her number
Soon we started talkin', I was outta my mind
She seemed a little immature, but I'd just give her some time
So that's what I did
About six months passed
She was getting impatient, but I couldn't relax
I was freakin' out!
She seemed really nice
Invited me to take her to her prom, and asked twice!
So I shelled out about a hundred dollars for a tux
Another for the corsage and dinner at a country club
The day after came
And I got ghosted
I didn't know it yet, but it was already over
Found myself across the table from her
In walked some big guy
She stood up and kissed him right in front of my eyes
See me shake
My heart break
Thought I knew love
'Till it ruined my day
My face flushed
Powerful stuff
Gambled with my heart
Now I feel crushed
(I feel crushed!)
I learned from that pain
I said goodbye
That's not the last girl to ever catch my eye
But I realized somethin'
As the months flew by
There's a lot more to love than fuzzy feelings inside
But if you've got an empty space in your heart that needs fixin'
No relationship that you could have can ever fill it
And you know the saying
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
If it is broke a significant other's insufficient
I've only found one love that can always be fulfilling
It's never up or down, in or out
It's consistent
And it's not romantic, though it's every bit as strong
It was proven when a perfect man was hung on a cross
I believe with all my heart, there ain't no greater love than that
Better than ice-skating tricks or 1,000 coke tabs
And it never runs out
Unlike a slow dance at senior prom
And if I never know another love
I've had it all along
