I call you up 6:30 on Saturday night you tell me you got plans already.

You say your going to New York city with a famous writer and his tiny dog.

 

Oh you got reservations at that restaurant in Harlem we always said we'd try.

We talk for ten minutes or so, but now he's texting you it's time to go.

 

So we say goodnight

"Goodnight", "Goodnight"

Guess there ain't no time for strangers, strangers like us.

 

And I'm stuck here twiddling my thumbs like

Saturday Is the loneliest day.

But you gotta practice talking or you're gonna go mad.

There's a place down the road, a little hole in the wall, where drinks are watered down and everyone is sad.

Nobody here is a regular.

Unless by "regular" you mean they got a job they hate.

And I drink until I'm crosseyed

And we cross eyes across the room.

We barely talk for a minute over the band that's out of tune

She says "Hey, you got whisky at your house?"

"I do."

 

So we say goodnight.

And the band keeps playing this little tune.

Bernadette came from Ireland

Named after the song?, I asked her.

"Oh lucky guess" she said with a smile, you know you dress like you listen to whatever's on the radio."

Turns out she won the lottery back home, show's me pictures of her prizewinning racehorse on her phone.

So what's millionaire with strawberry hair, doing at my place I don't know?

Well it turns out she lost it all

So we say alright,

"Why not?", "Alright."

And we spend the night
