We were actually in a cabin when we wrote it

Yeah we were in this like cabin on the

Lake in Alabama that some friends of ours

I saw that on Instagram, that wasn't a cabin

Yeah no, like mansion on the lake

It's a beautiful, bougie cabin that we are not worthy

I love a bougie cabin

We are not worthy of it

Some friends of ours let us have a little writing retreat there

And uh we were- it was kind of at the height of the MeToo movement

And the Brett Kavanaugh trials were happening and it was just

Such a- we tried to like hole away in this cabin and like not

Think about the outside world but of course at the end of the

Day you get on your phone and read all the garbage on Facebook

And Instagram and because I think we come you know from a state

That's very polarized we had people that we love very dearly on

Both sides of an argument that really shouldn't even be an argument

And I remember just-

In this instance you're right

Yeah like there shouldn't be like sides on

You know on whether or not this is okay

Yeah

And I remember both of us just feeling really kind of just kind

Of icky about that whole thing and you know the song is not-

It's not specifically about Brett Kavanaugh but it's about-

But fueled the feeling of injustice

Yeah it was like, it was like the climate that that story created

Around us is what caused that song to come you know into existence

And I just remember you know I loved the kind of metaphor of a

Cabin because you know a cabin's kind of a remote- it kind of has

This imagery to it that it's remote and you know maybe a little more

Capable of being burned to the ground cause it's made of you know-

And it's kinda like well you're right because that's the

Conclusion it's like people that have been through this

What are they supposed to do? They're damned if they talk

About it? They're damned if they don't talk about it?

Yeah you can't win

If they talk about it, if they put themselves out there

Their experience is scrutinized to the point where it

Brings us all women I think to the edge of rage and when

I am enraged I definitely want to burn something down

Yeah true

So I totally get that, that lyric and that sentiment of

Like you know what purify this thing, send it to the ground

And I think that people who have gone through

Traumatic experience like that I think that-

Can relate

Yeah I mean it's like you literally will push yourself to

The point of almost like self destruction because it's so

Present and it's with you and you don't get rid of it just

With time even you know so I think that you know that song

Even if it's not you know based on like a personal traumatic

Experience it's from observing what so many people everywhere-

And the way you feel about it I mean in terms of whether or not

This is observational or confessional I mean it's confessional

Yeah

Because you're not saying this happened to me, you're saying this

Is how I feel about the fact that this happens and if it did happen

To me I would be in the same situation of not being able to win

So true

So I mean I just think it's a really important sentiment and I think

It's one of those things where the metaphor is

So strong that it's important that you keep

Telling people what inspired it so they understand

Absolutely yeah for sure
