She Loved Piano

It's was just an old upright in the back bedroom Mama played it all day long she'd forget to eat her food A couple keys were stuck The pedals covered with rust But she could find its beauty even though it never played in tune cuz She loved piano And the places she'd go When her fingers played a melody That's when she was young and free I'd wake each morning And her heart was soaring Playing the symphony in her soul She loved piano It was there every sunrise to hold her first cup of tea It pulled her thru many nights of two jobs and seven mouths to feed The wood was faded and cracked Some notes we're sharp and flat But she made it sing like angels when I sat at her feet She loved piano And the places she'd go When her fingers played a melody That's when she was young and free I'd wake each morning And her heart was soaring Playing the symphony in her soul She loved piano She was a Mozart til her last breath of life And standing up in church there were no words I could find So i just sat down behind a baby grand and cried cuz She loved piano
