Lyrics

One day I went looking for the man who was sitting on the mountaintop
I figured he could tell me all the secrets in the world that time forgot
Early in the morning, I commenced my climb
Thinking my worries would be left behind
If I could only talk to the man who was sitting on the mountaintop
Half-past noon, I was half-way up, and the sun was high
I’d packed a little lunch ‘cause if I don’t eat, I tend to die
So IO sat down with my bread and my wine
And then I figured, hmm, nap time
Then I’ll resume searching for the man who was sitting on the mountaintop
I guess that maybe I slept a little longer than I thought i would
It was getting kind of dark and I thought to myself, self, this ain’t good
So I got some rocks together and I made a little chair
Figured I would spend the night right there
Then tomorrow I would find the man who was sitting on the mountaintop
Next morning the sun came up and I yawned and began to rise
But when I looked down the hill i received a big big big surprise
About a hundred folks, walking in a line
On a mission that appeared to be much like mine
All going to talk to the man who was sitting on the mountaintop
And I didn’t know what to do
So I sat and watched as near they drew
As far as I could see
Every minute they were closer and closer to me
And then and then and then
And then and then and then
And then
And then
And then and then and then again
The one at the front of the line said “sir, we have come to this spot
In search of the answers to the secrets of the world that time forgot”
I considered his hopeful face
And I said “well, you’ve come to the right place”
And that’s when I became the man who’s sitting on the mountaintop
Now ever since the day Iwoke up sitting on the mountaintop
I’ve been meeting with folks who come looking for the secrets that time forgot
They bring me bread, the bring me wine
It’s a pretty cool gig, most of the time
To have the job of the man who’s sitting on the mountaintop
Now, I bet you’re thinking I’m a con and the truth is I don’t know squat
And I bet you want to know what I tell ‘em is the secret that time forgot
Well, I never a lie
I just look ‘em in the eye
And i say when you get a little tired, it ain’t no sin to stop
And find yourself a place to rest for the rest of the time you’ve got
‘cause if you want to be happy in the world, it don’t really take a lot
A little bread, a little wine, and a seat on a more-or-less right-size rock
And you’ll know every single secret of the world that time forgot
When it’s your turn to be the man who’s sitting on the mountaintop
And this song was written
By the man who was sitting
On the mountaintop
