Looking out the window Watching the world Staring at the sky Eternally transfixed by the moon and the stars Tonight Venus is shining bright All those miles away I imagine being there and looking back at me All those miles away Looking out the window Staring at the sky Watching shape shifting clouds When I think of all the departed souls I've ever known Where does all that energy go Do we return to the earth and stars Have you transcended to a higher plane Will I ever see you again Will I ever see you again I can't believe you're gone I'm just stuck with the thought As sit here trying to cloth the thoughts in language But the thoughts transcend words And leave still craving explanation Suddenly I remember everything My memory playing reruns like an old VHS tape In hazy dreams Those times when I was with you Have an everlasting quality that will stay with me An intimation of immortality Fragments of eternity Consciousness that inflicts pain and joy in a single thought Suddenly I see myself on the central mountain of the world At the top Tinto 10, 000 Years ago When the glaciers first carved this land 10, 000 Years ago As I walk these quiet city streets With every step on every piece of ancient ground I realise the central mountain is everywhere 100 Years from now When all my atoms will have long since turned to dust And any memory of my life long since faded into the silence Out of which we come and back into which we go It's the tick, tick, tick of time that marches on It's the tick, tick, tick of time that marches on Shutting out thinking and time To open the eternal dimension Walking in rhythm with the universe Experiencing the eternal in fleeting moments With only a feeling in my minds eye Today feels like a new day And also a fragment of eternity Looking out the window Watching the world Staring at the sky Eternally transfixed by the moon and the stars
