And he's got a special problem in his arms There's another school heartbreaker With a high-powered peacemaker And the news cycle's sounding the alarms This time it's different - it's in his district He doesn't want to politicize local affairs But he knows how to pretend 'Til the news cycle ends So, he empties out a clip of Thoughts and Prayers Thoughts and Prayers Thoughts and Prayers Front and center gun debate is in the air He's got no plans to change but your representative cares His mass email reads "Forwarding: Thoughts and Prayers" Now he's anxious, but empowered at the same time He hears the sound of Opportunity Knocks Will it wake the internet trolls Will he slip in the polls Or become target practice on Fox He's got a bill for background checks He may need to hit the deck It's a political risk to say the least, mon frères Will he be bullied into shame When the pundits take aim And tell him "just to stick to Thoughts and Prayers" Thoughts and Prayers Thoughts and Prayers Front and center gun debate is in the air He's got no plans to change, but your representative cares His Facebook page reads "Sending Thoughts and Prayers" Now he's nervous About his re-election campaign He's taking heat from voters on the fringe Like this woman named Liz Farrel She's got him staring down a barrel (Yeah, that a new attack ad) It's a primary challenge The gun lobby says "If you talk, your career could lie in chalk" "Your future in D.C.'s in our cross hairs" He's got a campaign add to shoot He can fake giving a hoot So, he fires off another round of Thoughts and Prayers Thoughts and Prayers Thoughts and Prayers Sold his soul for damage control anywhere. He's got no plans to change, but your representative cares His Twitter feed reads #thoughtsandprayers He sees signs He hears marching in the streets Those snowflake youngsters got something to say They're too young to pull a lever But they won't be kids forever Maybe they'll tell off that crappy NRA There's a movement formed by students Maybe they'll disprove their TV naysayers Unlike this spineless politician They've got some ammunition 'Cause I think they're sick to death of Thoughts and Prayers Thoughts and Prayers Thoughts and Prayers Front and center gun debate is in the air. He's on the toilet tweeting Thoughts and Prayers (At least he was!) But I say "Click - out of ammo No more thoughts and prayers".
