The cruel water rises

It's swift and it's bold

It brings unwelcome surprises

Into the family home

With rain unrelenting

The streams disappear

Yesterday's normal

Is no longer here

The boats and the copters

Save all those who cling

To trees, roofs and porches

And carefully bring

Them to safe shelter

And out of the cold

Into arms of the giving, food for the body,

And peace to the soul

There's a river of kindness

A river of hope

It flows from those around us

And from some we don't know

It's a river of comfort

Washing over the pain

One heart to another, a hand for a brother

Ray of sun through the rain

 

It's hard to know where to turn

When we can't see the curve

On the uncertain path

We are certain to swerve

But there are many who care

Giving all of themselves

It's a blessing they share,

With those needing their help

The road up ahead

Is a difficult test

Rising to the occasion

It will bring out our best

Give to all a safe shelter

Give our love to the living,

And peace to the soul
