Lyrics

People see me and they see a black face
But not a man with a black voice
Not politics aligning with black choice
For good or for bad people have a narrative on black boys
I don't fit into either I just buzz, I make white noise
Not religious enough, not feral enough
When I'm anti-racist maybe it feels like a bluff
Sometimes it's not black squares and fists in the air
Just a day-to-day citizen with regular cares
Sure, there's troubles, trials and tribulations
But some are the same that white people are facing
Some days being a minority treats me amazing
Equal opportunity forms boosting my application
I'm not called oreo anymore, just a raceless blob
"You don't understand your culture", that's the faceless snobs
My culture changes on a day-to-day
Just like yours, what more can I say
Just a struggling muso I'm doing pay-to-play
Honestly I wanna be known for my thoughts and views
Not for things that other people do on the news
Not for times at clubs that I was refused
And not for times that I was verbally abused
They're few and far between and obviously obscene
But theres, more to me than hate crimes
People ask me "what are your biggest trouble as a black man?"
I say, "well it's affording council tax man"
It might be deciding who can have dreads or wear a kaftan
I'm I closer to Trenchtown or the road called Raglan?
