I want to go back to my old home

That’s where they can bury me

Back to the place of my childhood

High in the hills of Kentucky

 

Its been sixty years since I left there

That Great Depression weren’t so great to me

I left my home for the flatland

To find a job to feed a family

The doctors say it won’t be long now

til that cancer steals this life away

So let me rest with my mother and father

On that hillside till my final judgement day

 

We’ve had a good life in the flatland

Raised a family in a house we called our own

But now I hear a lonesome voice calling

It’s calling me back to my mountain home
